So you want to own a fish & chip shop?

So you want to own a fish and chip shop?

It would be good to read my blogs on businesswings.co.uk first to see if you really want to own one.

It is amazing how many people are currently looking to take over a fish and chip shop. With the recession, people from all walks of life who have saved a penny or two drive past their local chippy on a Friday or walk past a chippy in the middle of Cornwall in the peak season and think "you know what, I could open a fish and chip shop and rake it in".

Unfortunately, this is not how great ideas start. People always think of running any new business as easy. I will not be writing trying to advise you not to buy a fish and chip shop; my overall goal is to educate you into making the right choices when thinking about buying a fish and chip shop.

If you are ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands mucky then join the ride.

Without great employees in this industry you may as well not bother

In my businesswings.co.uk blog I want to make you aware before you commit to such a huge investment that you will need training in understanding where to purchase your fish from, which type of potatoes to buy and who to buy from and what to do when things go wrong. These are just the basics and there is so much more. How do you deal with customers, and more importantly employees? Without great employees in this industry you may as well not bother.

Areas I will cover in future blog instalments:

  • Dealing with banks and getting their support
  • Where to find a fish and chip shop
  • Choosing between a new set up, freehold or leasehold fish and chip shop
  • Dealing with the vendor
  • Dealing with training hen taking over
  • Memberships and organisations you will need

You will find my style of writing blunt but truthful and completely unbiased; if you ever want anything, get in tough. I look forward to your comments and questions.
