Sasha Rainey on getting into the coffee industry...

“Shortly after leaving school I started working in a coffee shop at the age of 19.

“It was a business that had one shop and when it started to expand I was managing those shops and project managing the building of other coffee shops.”

On buying the business premises...

“I got a loan from an individual, purely on a loan basis. I have no partners in the business, which is the way I want it. I put an offer in for the property before obtaining the loan, so I put down a small deposit to get the property off the market.

I had 10 working days to find the money otherwise I would have lost the deposit and the site, so I took a risk

“I had 10 working days to find the money, otherwise I would have lost the deposit and the site, so I took a risk. But at the time I thought it could only get better, because I didn’t really have anything else.”

On creating a look for his coffee shop...

“The feel of the place is industrial mixed with traditional, because this building was an old pub, but there are things like the electric trays which are exposed.

“Some aspects of the look of the interior are still here from the previous business, but I had quite a lot of input because I was helping to develop the previous business.”
