How many people make a multinational?

Sebastian Eckersley

Precisely one, if Sebastien Eckersley-Maslin succeeds in his challenge.

CEO of Sebastien International and its sole employee, the Australian entrepreneur is embarking on the kind of quest one would expect from leftfield stand-up comic Dave Gorman (most famous for his TV series premised entirely on finding other people from around the world who shared his name).

He is embarked on a dizzying 12-day journey that takes in Tokyo, Paris, New York, San Francisco and London with the ultimate goal of winning enough clients to make his eponymous company the first-ever one-man multinational.

In today’s business world, you don’t have to be big to be big and I aim to prove it

Sebastien Eckersley-Maslin

Eckersley-Maslin, a serial entrepreneur who left the Australian Navy to set up his first venture with a budget of just $500, is about to do the London leg, appearing in Covent Garden at the Walkabout bar on Monday 4 October.

If he can succeed in securing multinational status in 12 days then he intends to submit a film of his journey to the Guinness Book of World Records.

He will also be championing the cause of the Oneforone Group, which gives people a socially conscious choice when making a purchase by donating a similar product on a one-for-one basis to an individual of need in an impoverished local or international community.

“In today’s business world, you don’t have to be big to be big and I aim to prove it. This is a great example of an Aussie business punching above its weight on the global stage,” he says.

What a great business model. No competitors, minimum start-up financing, no need to file tax returns as his business has no country of residence, no board of directors to rubber stamp decisions. The only downside would be performance reviews and deciding what would be a reasonable termination package.
