Jessi and Buddug on their impatience to get the business up and running...

Jessi: “We started the market maybe the second week after graduating so it was quite immediate.”

Buddug: “We were planning it over the summer holidays. I just thought it was really important that we didn’t stop, but I made sure I put hours into making the first stall.”

On the next step after the market stall...

Jessi: “Then we started doing little bits of wholesale in the shop downstairs. We weren’t like, ‘right, we’re going to get a shop on Columbia road’, it was simply because...”

Buddug: “...a space became available.”

Jessi: “Now we love it because we have the shop and the studio in the same location, and I think that’s really nice for people to see. Before that we did it in a bedroom.”

Buddug: “I enjoyed making stuff so much that it didn’t matter if it was in my room, I just knew in the end I couldn’t be there forever.”

On their philosophy regarding investment in the business...

Jessi: “The little money we earned we ploughed back into the business and that’s how Buddug was able to buy more of her equipment.”

Buddug: “We’ve never taken business loans or government grants. We’ve always used what we’ve earn and that’s the way to do it.”
