How to find business insurance in your spare time

How hazardous is your workplace, to staff and the public?

We all know how precious free time can be when we are running our own business!

Getting just 10 minutes to ourselves can be a very rare opportunity indeed. It may be nice to be at the helm of our very own company, but it does involve a great deal of work.

Records have to be kept up to date, advertising needs to be organised and any new investments will require some very careful consideration. Then there are the extra jobs to attend to: potential employees to interview, unexpected costs and the odd awkward customer to placate!

When you think about it all like this, it is easy to understand why free time is in such very short supply. But few of us would change it for the world.

Who on Earth would want to go back to working under an employer after running a business of their own? Even though it does involve plenty of graft, it is still a rewarding and often enjoyable experience.

So we have established how valuable your ‘spare’ time is. Whenever you manage to get any, the last thing you will want is to waste it on other business matters. But some things are an exception to the rule...

Public liability insurance is an area where a little bit of homework can result in a much better deal

One such exception is public liability insurance. This type of insurance can have a huge impact on your business and it always deserves your time and attention.

But the time-consuming part of it is not the implementation of a policy; it is the research involved in finding the right one. Anyone can take out a public liability package for their company, yet taking the time to look into it all properly is a totally different matter.

Public liability insurance is an area where a little bit of homework can result in a much better deal. After all, this type of insurance will be in place to protect the interests of your business. And if it is not entirely compatible with your line of work, then it can end up costing you dearly.

Certain factors need to be addressed when you are looking around for the right cover. How much direct contact does the general public have with your business? If customers do visit your premises, then are there any potential hazards?

And can you do anything to further reduce the amount of risk on your premises? If one of your employees has an accident at work, could you have done more to have prevented it from happening in the first place?

Some companies will obviously have more risks attached to them than others, simply because of their line of work. A group of solicitors will not be surrounded by as many potential hazards as someone working in a car bodywork shop!

When you are getting quotes for your public liability insurance, it is important that you mention any specific dangers attached to your type of business. It can often be helpful to write a list of these before you even begin calling any insurers.

As you have your own business, you will obviously be used to negotiating when it comes to price. However, do not be put off by a policy simply because it is a little more expensive.

At the end of the day, you are looking for insurance that will give you the right kind of cover. If you can find yourself a good deal, then fine; just make sure it is something with an adequate amount of protection for your business needs!
