Julian on how to do bookkeeping effectively…

“Making sure that everything you’ve invoiced you’ve got, everything you say you’ve done is in the system, and it’s all reconciled, and that is costing you a cheap amount of money. At the end of the year, when you give your accounts to the accountant, they’re in prime condition.
“You’ve done half the work for him, therefore you’ll charge him a very economic rate – £200, £300, £400… whatever it is. A lot of bookkeepers do the annual accounts for you as well if they are a qualified bookkeeper.”

On helping you find a bookkeeper…

“We have a dedicated site called accountantnow.co.uk. If you type ‘accoutants in bath’ you might find us and you can go directly to the website.

“You just fill in your requirements and then we offer you a selection to choose from, normally of two or three people, that meet your particular requirements. There is no obligation to choose any of them.

“Normally we’ve done our homework so you have a competitive situation that is costing you nothing and you’re getting really responsive accountants, and normally that’s enough. In the first year of business we would suggest that a bookkeeper is the most important person in your business.

“But if you need further advice you just go to the website, send me an email and we’ll happily give you advice on how to save money.”
