Simon Gordon on mixing accountancy and business...

“I’m a boring old accountant really! Accountancy really helps because you do learn about lots of businesses. I always love coming up with solutions for problems and tweaking things.

“Once something’s running smoothly I want to try and move on and make another thing run. I could have just carried on with Gordon’s and come up once a week but it does get a bit boring really.”

I wanted to reduce handbag thefts, I started this little company called FaceWatch as part of that

On taking over an established business...

“I wanted to get the business so everything was exactly right such as improving the food, and I wanted to reduce handbag thefts, I started this little company called FaceWatch as part of that.

“I wanted to get all the documentation right, health and safety, etc. I spent a lot of time on that and making sure everyone was trained properly. Now it’s all really clean, lovely and nice.”

On the customers...

"People come back here because the foods fantastic, the staff are nice and the wine is really good value. It's got a real party atmosphere and I think that's why we get a lot of people coming back.

"We get lots of people bringing their grandchildren in here, I get people asking me if they can save a table so they can propose to their girlfriends, that happens at least once a month."
